The Central Serengeti offers the best resident game viewing in the Serengeti National Park. Ideally located, it attracts excellent game and numerous safari vehicles, so expect high visitor numbers in some areas. The area showcases varied landscapes, from wide grass plains framed by rocky hills to river courses lined with yellow-barked acacia trees. The great Serengeti plains gradually blend into rolling hills, changing the balance of species.

The main attraction is the beautiful Seronera Valley, a network of perennial rivers providing year-round water and supporting abundant herbivores like impala, buffalo, hippo, warthog, hartebeest, and giraffe. This prey attracts Africa’s largest predator populations, and it’s common to see lions, hyenas, leopards, and cheetahs on a single game drive.

Game viewing is excellent year-round. The northbound wildebeest migration passes through in May and early June, returning south from November to early December. The best viewing is during the dry season (June to November), when resident animals concentrate near water sources. Even in the wet season, there is plenty of wildlife action, though migratory animals like cheetahs, Thomson’s gazelles, and hyenas move to the plains.
