Safari in Sabi Sands

The Sabi Sands Game Reserve, a private game reserve situated in the southwestern corner of the world-renowned Kruger National Park, is steeped in safari history. Named after nearby rivers, Sabi Sands is one of the oldest and most well-known private game reserves in South Africa. Covering approximately 65,000 hectares of pristine, untamed African bush, it shares unfenced borders with Kruger National Park, allowing animals to roam freely across the land. This reserve boasts an extensive and varied landscape of fauna and flora, perennial water sources, and abundant wildlife, offering arguably some of the best wildlife viewing in Southern Africa.

On a Sabi Sands safari, you can enjoy an exceptionally high concentration and diversity of wildlife. It is home to the famed Big 5 (elephant, leopard, buffalo, rhino, and lion) as well as other animals such as impala, waterbuck, grey duiker, greater kudu, bushbuck, nyala, giraffe, warthog, crocodile, and hippo. Keen-eyed travellers can also look out for the hard-to-spot Secret 7 (serval, African wild cat, aardvark, pangolin, large-spotted genet, civet, and porcupine). Famed for excellent big cat viewing, especially leopards, Sabi Sands is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, home to over 300 species.

As a private game reserve, Sabi Sands is home to some of the world’s most luxurious lodges, and the quality of camps and lodges in the reserve is generally outstanding.
