Taking your kids on a Kruger National Park safari is an experience like no other. Watch your children gaze in wide eyed wonder as they explore the sights and sounds as yet unseen to them. Bond in an environment that is devoid of modern distractions and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Malaria

Kruger is considered a low risk Malaria area, but we recommend you please consult professional medical authorities (especially for young children or pregnant mothers).

Game Drives

As a rule of thumb, children younger than six will not be allowed on the daily game drives for safety concerns. Fortunately, many of the lodges suggested will have private game drive vehicles available – at an extra cost – where you can go on safari with your children and exclusively with your family (please note: rangers will still make the final decision on whether children or what ages of children will be allowed on game drives).

Many of the lodges are unfenced to the bush and wild animals can roam freely throughout the lodge. Whilst this is considered safe, children should not wander unescorted.

This renowned lodge accepts children of all ages and features a well-rounded programme aimed specifically at younger children. The ‘Elefun Centre’ will keep your cubs entertained and give them the chance to play ‘junior tracker’ among a host of other fun bush themed activities.

Simbavati River Lodge

Simbavati is a prestigious four star lodge found in the heart of the Timbavati Nature Reserve. The lodge welcomes children of all ages, and caters to families by having three chalets with inter-leading rooms. The viewing deck is a wonderful addition that overlooks the Nhlaralumi River – a great spot from which to view the variety of wildlife from the comfort and safety of your dinning table.

Kapama River Lodge

Kapama River Lodge offers a lot with their 64 rooms. Childrten are free to explore and walk around unescorted, since the lodge is fenced off from the rest of the reserve. Activities may include swimming in the large pool, a visit to the ‘Hoedspruit Centre for Endangered Species’ and the opportunity to interact with rehabilitated elephants. All in all, the Kapama River Lodge is very child-friendly.

Ulusaba Rock Lodge boasts the exlusive ‘Cubs Club’ –  the only 5-star Kruger lodge with a discernible children’s programme. The educational, interactive program lets children up to the age of 11 years old play ‘mini ranger’, create arts and crafts, and go on treasure hunt, and promises to keep children entertained while the grownups are at play.
