The Guidebook to Lemala Camps & Lodges

One of our dedicated team members was invited by Lemala Camps & Lodges to experience many of their offerings first-hand. The stay allowed for an in-depth evaluation of the accommodations, services, and overall guest experience. Below is her detailed feedback, offering valuable insights into how Lemala aligns with our standards at Safari365 and how it can enhance the safari experiences we curate for our clients.

This was my 3rd time in Tanzania in the last 14 years. I never tire of it and I am excited to have you read my feedback.

About Lemala Camps & Lodges

Lemala Camps and Lodges is a well-regarded luxury safari company with locations throughout Tanzania as well as in Uganda. Their exclusive tented camps and lodges are situated in some of the country’s most renowned wildlife areas, including the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Tarangire, as well as along Uganda’s River Nile. Lemala is committed to sustainable tourism, reducing its environmental impact and supporting local communities. The majority of their staff are locals, ensuring an authentic experience for guests. Each property offers a perfect balance between immersion in nature and the comfort and high-quality service guests expect.

Lemala Hammerkop House

The first stop was Lemala Hammerkop House, situated on the outskirts of Arusha, the gateway for anyone embarking on a northern circuit safari in Tanzania. This charming property features four en suite bedrooms and offers an all-inclusive experience, covering meals and drinks. The dedicated and attentive staff ensure that all guests’ needs, including dietary preferences, are well taken care of, making it an ideal place to unwind after a long international flight or before returning home.

Set within a vast estate, Hammerkop House provides a variety of activities for guests. Options include canoeing on the Momella Lakes, day trips to Mount Kilimanjaro or Mount Meru, scenic helicopter flights to view Kilimanjaro, golfing, mountain biking, and horse riding. For those looking to relax, the estate’s tranquil gardens and inviting pool offer the perfect setting to enjoy a refreshing drink and take in the serene surroundings.

Lemala Mpingo Ridge

Our next stop was Lemala Mpingo Ridge, set in the hills of Tarangire National Park, providing stunning views from the main area, its large pool, and the spacious rooms, which feature both indoor and outdoor showers.

The highlight for many is the romantic bathtub on the balcony. Alongside the traditional game drives, activities include night drives, hot air ballooning, sundowners, private dining under the stars, and visits to the nearby Chief Lebolo Community. Chief Lebolo, a young leader, championed education for girls in his community and, despite challenges, demonstrated resilience by improving local infrastructure. Some community members are employed by Lemala, showcasing their dedication to excellent service and personal growth.

Lemala Ngorongoro Camp

Leaving Tarangire behind, we made our way to Lemala Ngorongoro Camp, perfectly positioned on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. The camp’s tents are nestled within a beautiful forest of towering trees, creating a serene, almost heavenly atmosphere. During our stay, we were treated to a surprise lunch on the crater floor, a memorable experience that can be arranged for our clients as well at an additional cost. The lunch provides a culinary indulgence and the backdrop of scenic beauty. I highly recommend adding this to your next Tanzania safari with Safari365.

Lemala Nanyukie

From here we ventured to the Serengeti National Park and we were fortunate to witness part of the migrating herds heading south. We visited Lemala Ewanjan Tented Camp, where the views from the suite’s private decks were breathtaking! Then we stopped at Lemala Nanyukie. Both camps offer a luxurious experience in one of the country’s premier locations for game drives. I really was impressed with the private plunge pools at Nanyukie!

The next morning, there was another highlight – a magical hot air balloon safari experience over the awe-inspiring Serengeti. This is an early start, but so well worth it! Before heading back to the camp, we had a delicious champagne breakfast in the bush.

Lemala Kuria Hills

Next on our Lemala Camps & Lodges itinerary was a light aircraft flight to Kogatende airstrip, from where we visited Lemala Kuria Hills in northern Serengeti. Its rocky mountains are home to a joyful pride of lions and like Lemala Nanyukie – each spacious suite has a private plunge pool. I really loved the glass-fronted tents and the outdoor showers. This lodge is also all about location location location. The lodge offers front-row access to one of nature’s greatest spectacles—the river crossings of the Mara River during the Great Wildebeest Migration.

Lemala Wildwaters

My last stop was in Uganda, only 3 hours from the capital Entebbe. Located in the Kalangala Island is Lemala Wildwaters and yes it is in the middle of the Nile River. You can either sleep hearing the rapids or choose one of the rooms on the quiet side of the island. The pool is one of the most Instagrammed places in the entire world and you can have a drink while you hear the birds and the water and see the sunset on the famous Nile River. What a way to end the most amazing few days with fantastic hosts from Lemala Camps & Lodges.

We also visited the Adrift River Club, a 3-star superior property offering ample space and breathtaking views of the Nile. The rooms are nestled within a vast forest, making it an ideal option for families and groups. Conveniently located near the activities hub, guests can enjoy a variety of adventures, including rafting, kayaking, fishing, horse riding, stand-up paddleboarding, and visits to the local community.

One of the greatest lessons I brought home was imparted by the incredible Tanzanian people. Their deep connection with nature grants them a profound understanding of time. They recognize that you cannot rush nature, which brings them a sense of peace and a more relaxed pace in all they do, while still delivering exceptional hospitality and service. They have a remarkable ability to distinguish between what truly requires immediate attention and what is simply nature taking its course.
