We saw thousands of wildebeests crossing the Mara River

5/5
Hello. First of all let me say that the outpouring of admiration for Mandela here in Canada is amazing. His global reach and impact was and remains significant. I am thinking of you today. And this reminded me that I had not sent you an update on the trip my husband and daughter took to Tanzania. They had a fantastic trip. Here is an excerpt from Emily’s first e-mail home. “Having an amazing time! the northern Serengeti was even more amazing than could be described- thousands of wildebeests, saw them crossing the Mara River twice- quite the spectacle! We saw gazelles, impala, cape buffalo, lions, leopards, little antelope, big antelope, giraffes, zebras and a herd of 18 elephants, all browsing on trees and ripping off branches to feed the little elephants below! The big highlight was seeing not 1 but 3 rhinos!! We had an amazing guide who told us there were only 15 rhinos in the whole Serengeti (15,000 square kilometres) and she found one for us and we watched for an hour. Then driving back she heard there was a mother and baby rhino spotted off the beaten track, so we off-roaded until we found her. We watched the mom and little wee hornless baby rhino graze around in the meadow. (And spotted a hyena there too just for good measure). Such an honour to be able to see them. We have flown south to Lake Manyara.” All of their experiences were wonderful and they were well cared for because of your thoughtfulness and suggestions for their trip. Thank you so much for all of the support. Cheers, Cheryl
